Euthanasia

 Euthanasia

I have kept a dog who has been suffering from a fatal disease for a long time. If it was willing to be cured, it would live longer. However, it would absolutely go through weeks and months of pain and suffering. I didn’t want to burden my parents with the finances for the dog although they still love it. A vet also said that the dog would need much care if it survived. I faced the dilemma of deciding my dog’s life. The issue of mercy-killing has been a controversial issue all over the world. Some people think mercy-killing is necessary while others not. In my opinion, I think it should be essential for a few reasons.

In the first place, if I could live longer but suffer a lot of pain, I would rather choose mercy-killing. For me, mercy-killing can get the patient free from pain without being tortured with so many days. If terminal patients encounter a long, slow, painful death, definitely it is much better to spare them this kind of suffering and allow them to end their life with comfort. They also have the right to choose they want to die or not. Mercy-killing is another way to bring one’s life to a dignified end.

In the second place, I think the one of the greatest advantages is that euthanasia reduces the spread of diseases. There might be a chance that a contagious agent exists within the host and then disperses the virus. It may cause various diseases that animal would suffer. The longer the duration that the individual is kept alive, the higher chance that others would be affected by the disease if the one is not handled properly. Euthanasia can curb the spread of the illness.

At last, if you were in an extremely fatal condition, you might suffer at lot. On the other hand, how about your relatives? They must feel very depressed that you would deteriorate day by day. If you could undergo euthanasia and pass away without any pain, maybe it would spare their agony. Euthanasia is not just a thing about patients, but a serious thing between the patients and their relatives.

From what has been discussed above, you can get your preference. Personally, I think mercy-killing has more advantages. It relieves suffering and reduces the spread of diseases. Last but not least, it can ease the pressure and grief from the relatives. After consulting a vet, we decided to practice euthanasia on my beloved pet to let it go. Let the vet put it down so it could rest in peace. I reminded the saying written by Milan Kundera – “Dogs do not have many advantages over people, but one of them is extremely important: Euthanasia is not forbidden by law in their case; animals have the right to a merciful death.”

Challenge

Today, I had an impromptu speech in the speaking class. To tell to truth, it was my first time to have it in the presence of so many people. I was arranged to be the third one to present, and I felt extremely nervous. It is really difficult for me to deliver a Chinese speech let alone English. Although there was a lot of fear inside my heart, I still had to overcome it and try to present well. Before I presented, I had roughly written what I would speak later in a note within only 10 minutes and practiced it in a limited time. While I was speaking, some of people laughed as my speech was somewhat humorous. Then I felt much more relaxed to deliver a speech. Last but not least, my speech was smooth actually. In an instant, there was no stress any more, but a delightful feeling around me.

“We meet a lot of people, but we know only a few.”

I heard this from a person who has written a movie reflection after seeing a movie. It happened to be the movie that I have seen, that is, 3 idiots. I still remembered when I saw the movie, I moved to tears at last. It inspired me a lot toward the relationship with others. We meet a lot of people, but we know only a few. Therefore, this is why we should cherish more people beside us, including family, friends, and the lover. They are the vital roles in our life, and the ones we should care the most. There is no reason we should pay because they care us as well. A real and good relationship are not easy to come by. Appreciate what we have right now, and try to cherish what we own. This is the idea I want to share with you.

Merry-Go-Round

I still remember that when I was little, our family went to an amusement park located in Taichung. Before I got into the entrance, my mom told me that you had to walk along with me lest you should get lost. Therefore, I really took heed of what my mom was told by not detaching myself from my whole family. Upon entering the amusement park, every kind of facilities caught my attention. Nevertheless, some roller coaster rides frightened the pants off me so I didn’t have the courage to get on them. The best choice for me was the merry-go-round. As I straddled the fancy horse, I was totally losing myself in the fantastic world. Not only did I really have a good time staying in amusement park with my family, but it also gave me a truly memorable childhood. Now, I am overwhelmed with those innocent and pleasurable day of early childhood. For me, the amusement park is filled with rejoicing that can make people carefree and joyous. Once you are in the park, the bright energy that the park gives you will absolutely release your original pressure and create an unforgettable and irreplaceable recollection for you. If there is a chance for me to go to amusement park again, I will absolutely try to ride thrilling roller coasters and maybe merry-go-round as well to recall my good times.

My Roommates

My Roommates

I have four roommates. One of them is Lena, my classmate. The rest come from another department, yet we still have good relationship. Our dormitory life is not tedious at all as we share something interesting with each other from time to time. We always have a lot of topics to chat about. There has been so many stupid and funny things happening between us. I still remember that one time one of my roommates didn't bring keys so she asked me for help. Moreover, one of them once has found out that she forgot to bring her clothes to the bathroom before she took a shower. Sometimes we stay up late together, so at last we don’t go to the class on time. All in all, if I don’t have these roommates, maybe my college life wouldn't be colorful. They are my beloved roommates, and undoubtedly they are my close friends as well. For me, it is what the friends are for.

Movie reflection- Akeelah and the bee

Hello, guys, I want to share a movie I have seen before with you. It is called Akeelah and the bee

Actually, I have known a little about the spelling bee contest before because I have seen in the news that a little boy won the competition. At first, I thought spelling is a plain and effortless thing. Nevertheless, the movie changed my viewpoint for spelling. Only when I watched the movie, did I know a spelling contest story alone can touch my heart deeply and make me moved to tears.

Akeelah is afraid of others calling her pedant so she is not willing to participate in the spelling competition. However, she has a passion for spelling. I think everyone might have met the kind of inner struggle in our lives. In my opinion, we don’t have to care about other’s sight as one day we may have lost self. Why not just choose your life and live up to the ideal of yourself?

I learn a lot from the movie especially the words that coach asks Akeelah to read. When she reads these words, the rays from the sun light up her face. Each word totally inspires me!!! Here are the touching words.

A simple competition can change the people around Akeelah, such as her brother, mother, friends, Dylan, Dylan’s father and so on. Her constant efforts and the help from others are the key point that contributes to a great success. Never giving up and never caring about what others say. Just do yourself! It implies that as long as we try our utmost to achieve the goal, to realize the dream, we can get to the place we want eventually. The Akeelah’s success maybe inspires us to catch our dreams and create our own glories.
